The Zmeiny Island (Snake Island)

First land-based hydrobiological expedition in the coastal waters of the Zmeiny Island (Snake Island) in the Black Sea.

Objectives: plankton, neuston, benthos, and ichthyological researches in island's coastal zone, which is inaccessible for ship's investigations. Many specimens of the Red Data Book crabs species and other organisms were observed. The phenomenon of "island's gigantism" among marine invertebrate and fish was noted.
